Oberwerth wins Red Dot Design Award 2015

Camera bag ‘Freiburg’ – Awarded with the Red Dot Award for outstanding Design Quality

In the first year after launching the market, we were able to win the 1st prize of the internationally coveted Red Dot Design Award 2015 for innovative and trendsetting design.

Regina Immes, product designer and founder of the Oberwerth brand, and the whole team are delighted with the great recognition of Oberwerth’s bag design and the honor to be awarded with the Red Dot quality seal.

“We are delighted that our Oberwerth ‘Freiburg’ was able to convince such a top-class jury of experts. It is a wonderful recognition of our quality promise to produce bags that are long-lasting companions for photographers. It confirms that we continue our path of producing bags with excellent craftsmanship and the highest quality materials,” sums up Regina Immes.

Like every Oberwerth product, the ‘Freiburg’ is completely handcrafted from the first stitch to the last seam. Oberwerth uses almost exclusively materials from Germany. For quality reasons, the vegetable-tanned cowhide leather is sourced from Italy.

The ‘Red Dot Award’ is known across industries and countries as an award for high design quality. The international reputation of the award is reflected in the composition of the high-calibre jury, which is staffed with international star designers. Now in its 60th year, the Red Dot Award has become the world’s largest design award. In 2015, the expert jury included design luminaries such as David Andersen from Denmark and Prof. Jimmy Choo from the UK. The prize was only awarded to products whose outstanding design set them apart from comparable designs and left a lasting impression on the jury.

Our Oberwerth ‘Freiburg’ was awarded in the product category Fashion, Lifestyle and Accessories. After the award ceremony of the renowned award on 29 June 2015 in Essen (Germany), one ‘Freiburg’ bag has been included in the permanent exhibition of the house.

About the Red Dot Award

The Red Dot Design Award is divided into three disciplines in order to be able to professionally assess the diversity of design:

  • Red Dot Award: Product Design (our winner category)
  • Red Dot Award: Communication Design
  • Red Dot Award: Design Concept

The Red Dot Award was created by the ‘Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen’ and, with around 17,000 entries per year, is one of the most recognized design competitions in the world. In 2015, the Red Dot Award celebrated his 60th anniversary: in 1955, a jury met for the first time to evaluate the best designs of the time. The coveted award, the Red Dot, is the internationally respected seal for outstanding design quality.

Award winning designers, manufacturers and agencies use the Red Dot winner’s label and receive numerous other Winners’ Privileges, such as the presentation of the winning product on Red Dot website, in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, the Red Dot App and on Red Dot 21. Furthermore, the award-winning products are communicated in Red Dot’s international press work and exhibited for one year at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen (Germany).
